Під враженнями від заплав ми продовжили наш шлях далі на північ і на вечір приїхали в дуже цікаве місто. Кочі – це перша європейська колонія в Індії. Саме на ці береги приплив Васко да Гама в 1503 році і заснував перше португальське поселення у водах Індійського океану.

Under the impressions from backwaters we continued our path further to the North and by evening reached very interesting city. Kochi is the first European colony in India. Right on this coast came Vasco da Gama in1503 and founded first Portuguese settlement in waters of Indian ocean.
Прибули ми досить пізно і лише стало сили вийти до берега, щоб подивитися на древні Китайські риболовецькі сітки.

We came quite late and had energy just to see the old Chinese fishing nets on the coast.
Наступного дня роздивилися їх трохи краще. Це більш як чотирьохсотлітні величезні стаціонарні конструкції площею самої сітки більше 400 м2. Для управління такою махіною необхідно мінімум четверо людей.

The next day we took a look at it a bit better. It’s a more than 400 hundred years old huge stationary constructions more than 400 m2 by area nets. In order to operate such machine minimum 4 people are required.
Для балансу з протилежного боку встановлені важелі, а сам процес ловлення полягає у зануренні сітки на декілька хвилин у воді і повернення назад.

On the opposite side the is a balance stick and the whole fishing process looks like dropping the nets down to water, holding it there for a few minutes and lifting up back.
На жаль у сучасних умовах такий спосіб вже є неефективним, а самі рибалки починають ловити рибу значно активніше, бачучи когось з фотоапаратом. Потім запрошують людей на саму конструкцію, пояснюють як все функціонує і отримують символічну грошову винагороду.

Unfortunately in modern conditions such option is not efficient any more and fishermen start fishing much more active once seeing somebody coming with camera. Afterwards they invite people “on board”, explain how it works and receive a monetary reward.

Місто знаходиться на півострові і до “великої землі” довго об’їжджати тож більшість людей користуються паромом, щоб дістатися плацдарму в Ернакуламі, місцевого бізнес-центру.

The city is situated on a peninsula and to reach “the big land” it’s a way to go so most people use a ferry, in order to reach Ernakulam – local business centre.
